BNP has dissolved its convening committee for the south district unit of Chattogram and suspended the membership of three of its leaders in connection with the removal of 14 luxury cars from a factory of controversial S Alam Group.

The decisions were made public through two separate press releases signed by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday night.

Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, Assistant Organizing Secretary of the BNP Central Committee, confirmed the dissolution of the convening committee and the suspension of the leaders.

According to the press releases, the decision was made in accordance with BNP's policy. The south district unit of BNP convening committee has been dissolved, and no organizational activities can be conducted under the name of the unit until a new committee is announced.

At the same time, another press release said that the primary membership and all positions of the south district BNP's former Convenor Abu Sufiyan, Joint Convenor Enamul Haque Enam and Convening Committee member SM Mamun Mia have been suspended. This order will remain in effect until further notice.

The controversy began when it was reported that at least 14 luxury cars were removed from an S Alam Group factory in the Moijjartek area of Chattogram city.

The vehicles were shifted under the alleged supervision of BNP leaders. On August 29 (Thursday) at midnight, the cars were transported from the factory in the Moijjartek area under Karnaphuli Police Station.

This move came after the government announced a ban on the purchase of S Alam's assets and any interference with them. During the vehicle relocation, several BNP leaders, including Enamul Haque Enam, Karnaphuli Thana BNP Convenor SM Mamun Mia, and south district BNP Convenor Abu Sufiyan's driver, were present.

A viral video shows several cars being driven out of the factory in the dead of night, with Enam and Mamun visibly present.
