The Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP) on Monday strongly condemned and protested the attack on Bangladesh's Assistant High Commission in Agartala in India, as well as the desecration of the Bangladeshi national flag during the incident.
BSP chairman Shahzada Syed Saifuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari and secretary general Advocate Abdul Aziz Sarkar in a statement expressed their dismay and concern.
The statement was issued on Monday (December 2) night, signed by the BSP office secretary Mohammad Ibrahim Mia.
BSP leaders said, "India is Bangladesh’s influential neighbor and a friendly state. We respectfully recall India’s support during our Liberation War in 1971. However, we are deeply disheartened and concerned to observe the recent strain in relations following the August 5 regime change and the arrest of ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das, which seem to have triggered conspiracies and tension between the two nations."
"We are outraged by the attack on Bangladesh's Assistant High Commission in Agartala and the desecration of our national flag during a protest organized by the Hindu Sangram Samiti. As the larger neighbor, India bears a greater responsibility. If India wants to maintain good relations with Bangladesh, it must ensure the security of all Bangladeshi missions and take immediate action against the perpetrators," the leaders said.
The BSP leaders further called upon both nations to take steps to strengthen government-to-government (G2G) relations.
They also emphasized that no one should be allowed to incite conflict through provocative statements, which could worsen the situation. The public was also urged to remain calm and composed, ensuring that no provocation leads to repercussions for the entire nation and its people, the statement added.
