Awami League will not be allowed to participate in the upcoming elections, said interim government Adviser Mahfuj Alam today (25 January). Speaking at a street rally in Chandpur's Hajiganj Bazar, he emphasised that the election process would only involve parties aligned with pro-Bangladesh ideologies, reports Prothom Alo.

Mahfuj asserted that the elections would be open to all political parties, organisations, and individuals committed to the welfare of Bangladesh, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, student bodies, workers, women, intellectuals, and religious scholars.

He stressed the need for fair elections, aiming to establish a governance system rooted in justice and equality for the people of Bangladesh through positive competition among pro-Bangladesh entities.

Addressing the government's priorities, Mahfuj said, "Our focus includes prosecuting individuals involved in murders, disappearances, and rapes while implementing reforms and ensuring fair elections with the participation of all pro-Bangladesh political parties a goal that has remained unattainable for the past 16 years."

Hajiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tapas Shil, Hajiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohiuddin Faruk, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, representatives from the Chandpur unit of National Citizens' Committee, and activists of the Islamic Student Movement were present at the event.
