BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman has said his party wants to rebuild the country from the havoc carried out by the ousted Awami League through implementing the 31-point charter. "AL suppressed the country's people for 16 years, and I believe that real revenge against this suppression could be possible through implementing our 31-point charter," he said while addressing the biennial conference of the party's Narail district unit virtually from London today. The conference was held at Narail Government High School ground.

Mentioning that the BNP has a great chance to win in the next election, he said, "Despite having huge support from people, the BNP should start working for public welfare from now on." He asked the party leaders and workers to get ready and change their mindset to bring positive changes in the country and implement the 31-point.

"If the BNP is voted to power, it will start implementing the 31-point, which will carry forward as an ongoing process and we'll improve it step by step," he said. "Real victory of BNP leaders and workers will come if we can implement the 31-point charter," he said.

Pointing out the irregularities in the country's various sectors during the reign of Sheikh Hasina, Tarique Rahman said the fascist AL has destroyed the country's economy, education, development and democracy alongside making the country's electoral system completely farcical.

He said Awami League in all possible ways oppressed and persecuted the leaders and workers of the opposition parties through killing, implicating in false cases and enforced disappearances. Almost 16 years, the fascist AL and its allies deprived people of their freedom of expression and resorted to complete misrule through an undemocratic process.

He went on saying, as autocrat Sheikh Hasina robbed the voting rights of people to keep power in hand, the mass uprising of students and common messes ousted her from power, forcing her to flee the country.

Tarique Rahman said the countrymen are looking at the BNP to get back their right to vote and right to speak. "Everyone must unite to restore the right to live and repair the state structure."

Highlighting the contributions of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and its chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to the welfare of the country, he said both of them have faced obstacles when they were working to establish the people's democratic and political rights.

They had to face enormous opposition as they took initiative educating children, creating employment, increasing food production, expanding industrialization and ensuring economic emancipation.

Stating that BNP believes in multi-party democracy, Tarique Rahman said "BNP, a party formed by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, always remained beside the people in the past and it will stay beside them in the future also."

He said parliamentary democracy was established in the country under the leadership of Khaleda Zia, BNP chairperson and former prime minister. The BNP government safeguarded the freedom of press, improved women's education, generated huge employment opportunities through setting up mills and factories, he said.

Tarique Rahman alleged that various quarters are spreading propaganda at home and abroad to defame the BNP, saying, "We'll face them politically." He, however, said, "It's our responsibility to maintain the trust of the people and for this we have to change our perspective and be confident to bring the changes."

BNP Chairperson's Adviser Aman Ullah Aman inaugurated the conference while Narail District BNP President Biswas Jahangir Alam was in the chair.

On the occasion national and party flags were hoisted and pigeons and balloons were released. BNP Khulna Divisional Organizing Secretary Anindya Islam Amit and Assistant-Organizing Secretary Jayanta Kundu spoke as special guests at the program.
