The ruling Awami League (AL) General Secretary, Obaidul Quader, accused the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of attempting to instigate chaos in the country ahead of the upcoming general elections.

In a media statement on Monday (23 October), Quader emphasised that the Awami League remains committed to upholding democratic principles and values, ensuring that the forthcoming national elections will be held on schedule in adherence to the constitutional process.

Stressing the importance of a peaceful and inclusive electoral environment, Quader expressed concerns over BNP's alleged attempts to disrupt the polls. "We anticipate a democratic and transparent election process with the participation of all political parties. However, BNP's persistent efforts to sabotage the elections are deeply troubling," he stated.

Quader, who also serves as the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, firmly asserted that BNP's relentless pursuits to seize state power by any means are a threat to the country's democratic fabric.

He warned that should BNP's actions jeopardize the nation's democratic integrity, they will be held accountable for their actions.

Accusing BNP leaders of undermining the country's independence and sovereignty, Quader criticized their alleged appeals to foreign entities in an effort to gain sympathy and support.

He accused BNP of plotting to destabilize constitutional governance and pave the way for unelected authorities to assume power.

Reiterating AL's unwavering commitment to upholding the constitution and safeguarding national sovereignty, Quader said that the party stands prepared to counter any efforts to disrupt the country's democratic progress and stability.

He said that numerous AL members have sacrificed their lives in the struggle for freedom, liberation, and democratic rights, vowing that the party remains dedicated to maintaining the country's progress and prosperity under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu.

Addressing the concerns surrounding BNP's proposed rally on October 28, Quader assured that AL leaders and supporters, in alliance with peaceful citizens, will remain vigilant against any form of terrorism and disorder initiated by the opposition party.

He concluded by emphasizing the readiness of AL members to make necessary sacrifices to ensure the continued development and prosperity of the nation.
