Continuous rainfall and runoff from the hills in India have caused severe flooding, damaging many mobile operator towers. Despite adequate precautions, the rising floodwaters have rendered 21.6% of towers in 11 districts inoperative.

As of Thursday morning (August 22), the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications reported that out of 6,986 towers in the flood-affected districts, 5,476 sites remain operational, with Feni and Khagrachari being the hardest hit, showing outage rates of 42.4% and 41.5%, respectively. Efforts to restore the disabled towers are ongoing.

In response, all leaves for officials and employees of departments and agencies under the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications have been canceled to ensure continuous telecommunications services and expedite repairs in affected areas, including Feni and Comilla.
