Australia have won the toss and opted to bowl first against Bangladesh in the ICC World Cup match on Saturday in India’s Pune. In the lead-up to this match, Bangladesh participated in eight World Cup games, facing defeat in six. Their only triumphs were against subcontinental rivals — Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
Shakib Al Hasan is unavailable for this match. The regular ODI captain of Bangladesh left the team following a finger injury sustained in the last match against Sri Lanka.
In his absence, Bangladesh’s ODI vice-captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, leads the team.
In previous World Cup encounters, Bangladesh faced Australia three times, failing to secure a victory.
Despite aiming to conclude their World Cup campaign on a positive note, Captain Shakib remarked that this edition would be remembered as the worst in Bangladesh’s history.
