In a riveting clash at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Fortune Barishal secured a nail-biting victory over Rangpur Riders, winning by 5 wickets with just 5 balls to spare in the third match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024.
Rangpur Riders, batting first, faced early setbacks as they posted a challenging yet precarious total of 134/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Shamim Hossain's resilient 34 and contributions from other middle-order batsmen anchored their innings.
Khaled Ahmed shone with the ball, claiming a remarkable 4 wickets for Fortune Barishal. Mehidy Hasan Miraz took two wickets for them.
In response, Fortune Barishal faced hiccups, but skillful contributions from Tamim Iqbal (35), Mushfiqur Rahim (26), and a composed innings by Shoaib Malik (17*), guided them to victory. Mahmudullah Riayd's quick 19 off 11 balls was also important for them.
Shakib Al Hasan and Hasan Murad tried to stage a comeback for Rangpur Riders with 2 wickets each, but Fortune Barishal held their nerve.
In the second match of the day, Chattogram Challengers will take on Khulna Tigers at the same venue.
