Ex Indian batter Virender Sehwag once again criticized Shakib Al Hasan`s all-rounder disappointing performance.India defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs in super eight match in Antigua,T20 world cup on Saturday (22 June)
During a post-match discussion on Cricbuzz, Sehwag questioned Shakib's dedication to the team's cause and reiterated his earlier suggestion that Shakib should retire.
Shakib managed to score only 11 runs off seven deliveries and took one wicket for 37 runs in three overs. His expensive bowling and inability to provide the necessary momentum with the bat contributed to Bangladesh's struggle to chase down a target of 196.
"[You got to] stay in the crease with the other batter and try to make a match out of it. You scored 11 off seven and got out. I don't understand it. He has a lot of experience but isn't using it. Or does he not care? You hit one six but you cannot hit every ball for six. That's why I said earlier that he should make way for a younger player," Sehwag said.
Previously, after Bangladesh's group-stage loss to South Africa, Sehwag had stated on the same show that Shakib should be ashamed of his performance and retire from T20Is.
In response to Sehwag's earlier criticism, Shakib, after scoring a match-winning half-century against the Netherlands, had remarked that he doesn't play to respond to anyone's comments.
