Australian opener David Warner's stellar international career came to an end after his side got knocked out of the ongoing T20 World Cup following Afghanistan's dramatic entry into the semifinal.
David-warner has scored almost 19000 runs in international cricket with 49-centuries.
Australia's hopes of making it to the semifinal took a hit when they lost to Afghanistan in the Super 8 stages. Their loss to India on June 25 further dampened their chances before Afghanistan's win over Bangladesh confirmed their exit. As a result, Warner's international career has come to an abrupt end considering he had long back announced that this tournament would be his swansong.
Warner had already retired from ODIs as a two-time world champion and exited the Test arena at home last summer. While he left the door open for a return to the ODI side for the Champions Trophy if needed, that move is widely seen as an unlikely one.
"I guess we've had a little taste of it," Hazlewood said after the India game on Warner's exit. "So, it's sort of been a slow burn with our Test cricket and ODI cricket and now T20. So, life without him, we've sort of gotten used to it a little bit in New Zealand. Yeah, it's always different when you lose a player that's been there for so long. But we'll move on and push forward."
Apart from winning the ODI World Cup, Warner has also won the T20 World Cup in 2021 and the World Test Championship last year. The 37-year-old has scored almost 19000 runs in international cricket with 49 centuries.
