Once celebrated as the country's top footballer, Kazi Salahuddin was elected as the President of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) on the back of his fame. Expectations were high that under Salahuddin’s leadership, football in the country would progress. However, those hopes have been dashed. Football in Bangladesh is now in a dire state, plagued by corruption and political influence.
Following a shift in the country’s power dynamics, various groups have called for Salahuddin’s resignation. A football fan organization called Bangladesh Football Ultras had earlier demanded his resignation. Now, the Bangladesh Football Supporters Forum has also become vocal in demanding Salahuddin's departure.
The forum stated, “BFF President Kazi Salahuddin, along with his key associate in irregularities and corruption, Mahfuza Akhter Kiron, must immediately resign from BFF. We are issuing a single demand from the Bangladesh Football Supporters Forum. We are giving BFF seven days to meet our demand. If not, we will take actions in accordance with the country’s prevailing laws.”
In addition to demanding the resignation of Salahuddin and Kiron, the Bangladesh Football Supporters Forum has also listed a few other demands. These include reducing the president’s unilateral power in the BFF executive committee, stopping illegal appointments, and hiring honest, qualified, and competent staff. The forum has also called for the dismissal of several corrupt officials.
