Faruk Ahmed previously served as the chief selector for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). However, the former captain has been away from the BCB for quite some time. Now, he's made a return, this time as the BCB president.
In a recent interview, Faruk Ahmed expressed his disappointment with the current head coach, Chandika Hathurusingha. He mentioned that if he were in charge, he wouldn't have kept Hathurusingha.
Now that Faruk Ahmed is the BCB president, has his stance on Hathurusingha changed? Or does he still think the Sri Lankan coach should be let go?
In his first press conference as BCB president, Faruk Ahmed was confronted with such questions. In response, he made it clear that his position hasn't changed.
Hathurusingha's contract with the BCB runs until the 2025 Champions Trophy. Letting him go before that would result in significant financial losses for the BCB. Thus, Faruk Ahmed isn't explicitly talking about an immediate dismissal, but he made it clear that his stance remains unchanged.
Faruk Ahmed said, "I don't really know the duration of Chandika Hathurusingha's contract, but I still stand by my previous position (that Hathurusingha should be replaced). Now that I've taken on this responsibility, I'll look for alternatives, someone better, or at least someone of similar caliber."
He added, "Then I'll discuss it with others, including the CEO, and those who've worked before. After that... to be honest, I haven't changed my stance yet."
