Mushfiqur Rahim notched his 11th test century and his first against Pakistan as Bangladesh reduced the home side's lead to 59 runs at lunch on the fourth day of the first cricket test on Saturday (24 August).

Mushfiqur showed plenty of patience against an all-out pace attack to remain unbeaten on 173 and lead Bangladesh to 495-6its first innings before tea break. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was unbeaten on 50.

Pakistan scored 448-6 declared in its first innings.

Pakistan's pace bowlers failed to penetrate through Bangladesh's lower order on a slow wicket in the session and could take just one wicket as the visitors added 73 runs after resuming on 316-5.

Naseem Shah (2-86) had overnight half century-maker Litton Das (56) caught behind inside the first hour, but Mushfqur and Mehidy further reduced the lead with an unbeaten stand of 57 runs.

Mushfiqur was on 59 when he successfully overturned on-field umpire Richard Kettleborough’s lbw decision on a video referral.

Mushfiqur reached his century in the penultimate over before lunch off 200 balls that also featured 12 boundaries when he swept off-spinner Salman Ali Agha for two runs as Bangladesh moved closer to Pakistan’s total.
