They [India] are using water aggression as a weapon against Bangladesh, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today (25 August).
"The recent flash floods in Bangladesh, the worst in 15 years, occurred due to India's decision to open its dams without providing any prior warning. As most of the upstream water originates in India, the lack of cooperation and coordination in water sharing has led to severe flooding in Bangladesh," he said at a views exchange meeting with journalists in Sylhet organised by the district BNP.
Fakhrul mentioned that protests against India's water aggression had begun in Sylhet led by BNP leader M Ilias Ali.
He added that Ilias Ali has been missing since the protests started.
On a different note, the BNP leader said, "The interim government led by Dr Yunus, is steering the country towards stability during a crucial turning point. Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina, from India, is orchestrating a deep conspiracy against the nation, but it will not succeed."
He went on to say that the interim government needs adequate time to reform all the country's institutions and ensure a fair election, but this time should not be indefinite.
In this context, he pointed out that the caretaker government led by Justice Latifur Rahman successfully held a fair election within three months
