Bangladesh has won the SAFF U-20 Football Championship by defeating Nepal. This marks Bangladesh’s first title in the U-20 category, having previously won all other age-based SAFF competitions.

In the final held on Wednesday (August 28) at the ANFA Complex in Lalitpur, Nepal, Bangladesh outplayed the hosts with a 4-1 victory. Mirazul Islam scored twice, while Rabbi Hossain and Piyas Ahmed each netted one goal.

In the 2022 edition, Bangladesh had finished as runners-up after losing 5-2 to India in extra time. This year, however, Bangladesh overcame India 4-3 in a penalty shootout in the semifinals, before defeating Nepal in the final despite losing to them in the group stage.

Bangladesh had to wait until the 45+1 minute to score their first goal. Mirazul Islam converted a free kick from just outside the penalty area to give Bangladesh the lead.
