Australia posted a formidable total of 367 against Pakistan in Bengaluru on Friday (20 October), buoyed by centuries from their openers.
Pakistan won the toss and chose to field, but their decision seemed questionable as the Australian openers forged an impressive partnership of 259 runs for the first wicket.
Pakistan had two opportunities to break this stand, but they failed to capitalize on them.
In the fifth over, Usama Mir dropped a straightforward catch from David Warner when he was at 10. Warner went on to score a remarkable 163 off 124 balls, comprising 14 fours and 9 sixes. His partner, Mitchell Marsh, contributed a robust 121 off 108 balls.
However, none of the other Australian batters managed to surpass the 30-run mark.
For Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi secured five wickets for 54 runs in 10 overs, while Haris Rauf took 3 wickets for 83 runs.
Pakistan now faces the daunting task of chasing a mammoth total of 368 to beat Australia in this match. Notably, in the history of World Cups, no team has successfully chased such a substantial target before.
