In yet another disappointing batting performance, Bangladesh could only manage to post 205 runs target being all out in 45.1 overs in their ICC World Cup 2023 showdown against Pakistan on Tuesday (31 October) in Kolkata.
Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Bangladesh encountered early setbacks, losing three wickets with a mere 23 runs on the board.
Tanzid Hasan failed to make an impact, while Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim also fell short of expectations.
However, in the fourth-wicket partnership, Litton Das and Mahmudullah Riyad combined for 79 runs, providing some stability to the innings.
Litton was dismissed after contributing 45, while Mahmudullah reached an impressive 56. This half-century places Mahmudullah at the forefront of Bangladesh's leading run-scorers.
Following the dismissals of Litton and Mahmudullah, Bangladesh lost Towhid Hridoy after scoring just seven runs.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the last hope in the late order to post a challenging total. He contributed 25 off 30 balls, showing good negotiation with the Pakistan attack, but ultimately couldn't carry on.
Before him, Shakib Al Hasan scored 43, his best performance in this World Cup, but he too could not capitalise on a promising start.
For Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Wasim each took three wickets, while Haris Rauf claimed two.
