Salwar-kameez has always been regarded as a very elegant outfit, and its versatility has ensured its enduring popularity. Over the years, the monotony of traditional salwar kameez has been replaced by innovative and stylish designs, making it a major part of modern fashion.

This outfit's appeal spans all age groups, keeping it perpetually in demand. With Eid approaching, showrooms are now showcasing their latest collections of stylish salwar kameez.

Nishat Tania writes on the insights of Mesbah ul Alam Saju, founder, CEO, and fashion designer of fashion house Makay, who shares his perspective on the evolving trends and timeless charm of this traditional yet contemporary attire.

Mesbah ul Alam Saju shared, "As usual, this time too, there are great surprises with the cotton collection." While both light and dark colours are featured, light colours are gaining prominence. The biggest attraction is the handwork on each dress. Needle and thread work in prints like skin, block, and batik have revived traditional styles.

Every year brings a new trend in Eid clothes, and this year is no exception, especially with Eid al-Adha coinciding with the hot season. Cotton salwar-kameez will be comfortable for working mornings. Light thread work, embroidery, and lace details on cotton kameez add a smart touch to the outfit. Punjabi style kameez pairs well with pants, while co-ords or two pieces offer great comfort in the heat.

Mesbah ul Alam Saju mentioned that since the dresses are made of cotton, using cotton lace enhances the beauty of the sleeves. Various sleeve designs have been observed, such as bell, mic, and loose sleeves, which are quite eye-catching. Along with lace, small bead garlands are also being added to the sleeves. For those preferring cooler options due to the heat, sleeveless or maggi sleeves are also popular.

This Eid, short kameez styles have introduced a fresh novelty. Flare-patterned accompanies long and short kameez designs. There are both salwar-kameez sets and two-piece outfits available. A fusion of indigenous and Western styles has also become prevalent. Single kurtis are particularly popular among teenagers, offering ease for morning activities and guest entertainment.

Various designs were seen, including monochromatic kurtis with block or yarn embroidery around the neck, and mixed check fabrics with batik. Towel print is also being used. Besides cotton, georgette kurtis with different laces have been seen in the market.

If you go out in the afternoon or evening, you can opt for exclusive or party kameez. Silk single kameez also look great with any pants. These outfits feature rigging work or various types of yokes. In terms of cutting styles, there are Anarkali, Angarakha, and Sadabahar, along with long, semi-long, and straight pattern party wear. These styles are available in Jacquard Cotton, Georgette, Linen, Dhupian, Dubai Silk, Swiss Cotton, Viscose, Nib Cotton, and Momo Silk.

There is a surprise for Eid this year as well. By working with traditional sharara, our designers have made it more elegant. It looks great not only with long and short kameez but also with long shirts.

The look of the salwar-kameez’s veil is quite important. Therefore, most kameez today are paired with a variety of orna styles. Muslin, half silk, and cape-type ornas are currently more preferred by buyers. The popularity of using tassels under veils has not waned.

For a refreshing look in the morning or afternoon of Eid, keep it as simple as you can with a salwar-kameez.
